A numeral is how we write a number.

The numeral must match the count.

Read it: Count, then write the number

Priya counts her ducks: 1, 2, 3, 4. The last number is 4, so she writes 4.

  1. Touch each duck once and say a number: 1, 2, 3, 4.
  2. The last number you say is how many: 4.
  3. Write that number: 4.

Each duck gets 1 number, so none is missed or counted twice.

The last number you say tells how many ducks there are.

We write how many with a numeral: 4.

Count each one once. Write the last number.

Writing 5 because you touched a duck twice.

Touch each duck once: 1, 2, 3, 4. Write 4.

Type the numeral for: ten. — 10. Ten is written 10.
