What we keep about your family, why we keep it, who else holds any of it, and how to have it corrected or deleted. Five minutes, in plain English.

Who we are

Brainsladder is a K–8 practice program for families, run by Brainsladder.

Write to us at 92 Corporate Park, Ste C #1091, Irvine, CA 92606, or at hello@brainsladder.com. A reply to any email we send reaches the same person.

Brainsladder is in beta

Any family can sign up while we finish building the product. Everything on this page describes the product as it is today.

What we keep about you

Your email address, so that you can sign in and we can write to you. Your name, if you give one. Which plan your family is on, and when it runs to.

If you sign in with Google instead of a password, we receive the address and the name Google shares with us when you press that button, and nothing else — no contacts, no calendar, nothing from your account there.

If you buy a plan, Stripe takes the payment and holds the card. We never see a card number and we never keep one; what reaches us is whether the plan is live and the day it renews.

A family can have two adults on it

The parent who made the account can invite one more adult by email. We send that letter ourselves, it names the person who invited them, and the link in it works for thirty days. Each of you then has your own sign-in, your own name and your own choice about which emails to receive.

Only the parent who made the account can manage the plan or close the account. An adult who leaves the family, or is removed from it, keeps nothing: their access ends and the family’s information stays with the family.

What we keep about a student

What you type when you add them: a first name or a nickname, a grade, and the colour they pick. That is the whole record you enter, and there is nothing else we ask for.

What their practice makes: the answers they give, how long a question took them, the rungs they climb, the stars they earn, and the packets they finish. It is what draws their ladder and your weekly note, and it is not used for anything else.

A student has no email address here and no account of their own. You may set them a student login — a username and a password you choose — and you may hand them a device with a link or a QR code, which signs that one device in as them for about 3 months of use. Every signed-in device is listed on their page, and you can sign any of them out at any moment.

The button that reads a question aloud uses the voice already built into the browser on the device. Nothing is recorded and nothing is sent anywhere. The spoken worked answers are sound files we made in advance from the words alone, so playing one tells us nothing about who played it.

What we never do

We show your family no advertising. We sell nothing about you or your students, to anybody, for any price. We let no other company follow your family around the internet from these pages: there are no advertising or tracking cookies here. The only things we store on your device are the one that keeps you signed in and the one that keeps a student’s device signed in as them.

Who else holds any of it

Running Brainsladder takes a handful of other companies. Each is given only what its own job needs, and none of them may use it for anything else.

The companies that hold part of a family's information, and what each is given
CompanyWhat it does, and what it is given
Vercelruns the site, and keeps the sound files for the worked answers
Neonstores your family's information
Clerkhandles your sign-in and your password
Stripetakes payment and holds the card; we never see a card number
Resendsends our emails
Googlesigns you in, and only if you choose that button — we receive the address and the name Google shares with us, and nothing else
ElevenLabsmade the recorded voice on the worked answers — it was given the words to speak and nothing about your family

How long we keep it

While your account exists, and no longer. Closing your account is one press on your Plan page: it removes the account, every student on it, and everything they have earned. Your family's data is deleted straight away — there is no waiting period and no undo. A backup copy can survive for a limited period after that, and once it lapses nobody can recover it — not you, and not us.

You can remove one student on their own the same way, from their Settings tab, and you can ask us to do either for you instead.

What you can ask for

What a family may ask for, and how to ask
You canHow
See what we holdWrite to hello@brainsladder.com and we will send you everything we have about your family.
Correct itA student's name, grade and colour are yours to change on their Settings tab. Write to us for anything else.
Delete itRemove one student from their Settings tab, or close the whole account from the Plan page. Either is immediate, and either can be asked of us instead.
Stop us keeping moreRemove the student, or close the account. Nothing further is kept from the moment you do.

We answer within thirty days, and we never charge for any of it.

If you live in California

You have the right to know what personal information we hold about your household, to have it corrected, and to have it deleted. The table above is how you use each of them, and asking costs you nothing and changes nothing about the price you pay.

You also have the right to tell a business not to sell or share your personal information. We sell nothing about your family and we share nothing for advertising, so there is no such request to make of us and no button to press.

Students under 13

A separate notice covers what we keep about a young student, why your consent covers it, and how to review or delete it: Children's privacy.

If this policy changes

The date at the top moves and we write to you before anything that matters takes effect. What you agreed to when you signed up is the terms, which say the same about themselves.
