5 × 6 = 30 ↔ 30 ÷ 5 = 6
Let's get fluent with our fives — one of the friendly fact families along with twos and tens.
Here's a number line from zero to thirty, with a tick at every five.
Start at zero and hop five. We land on five.
Hop another five. Now we're at ten.
Another hop… fifteen.
Twenty.
Twenty-five.
And one more brings us all the way to thirty.
Look what we did — six hops, and each one was worth five.
Six groups of five is thirty. So five times six equals thirty.
Flip it around. If we have thirty and split it into fives, we get back to six hops. Thirty divided by five is six.
Multiplication and division are partners. Knowing five times six is thirty means you already know thirty divided by five is six!
