A sharing story is division into equal groups.

The total is split so each bag gets the same.

Read it: Share equally: deal round

12 apples shared equally into 4 trays. Deal round: each tray gets 3.

  1. Find the total and the number of groups.
  2. Deal 1 to each group, round and round.
  3. Count 1 group: 12 ÷ 4 = 3.

Shared equally means every group gets the same.

Each round uses 4 apples, so 3 rounds use all 12.

4 groups of 3 make 12, so 12 ÷ 4 = 3.

In a sharing story, divide the total by the number of groups.

Multiplying 12 by 4 instead of sharing the 12 out.

Shared equally means divide: 12 ÷ 4 = 3 in each.

6 apples are shared equally into 3 bags. How many apples are in each bag? — 2. Deal round into 3 bags: each gets 2. 6 ÷ 3 = 2, because 3 × 2 = 6.

15 ÷ 3

Maya has fifteen stickers. She wants to share them equally with her two friends. How many stickers does each person get?

First, let's find the total. There are fifteen stickers in all.

Next, the groups. Maya and her two friends make three people sharing.

So we write fifteen divided by three.

Let's deal them out, one to each person, until they're all gone.

Each person ends up with five stickers.
