A percent is a share out of one hundred.

Of means multiply.

A percent can be written as a decimal.

Read it: Percent as parts of 100

60% of 50: the whole tape stands for 50, cut into 10 equal parts of 10%. Each part is 5, and 60% is 6 parts: 30.

  1. The whole tape is 100%: here it stands for 50.
  2. Cut it into 10 equal parts of 10%: each is 50 ÷ 10 = 5.
  3. Take as many parts as the tens in the percent: 60% is 6 parts, 6 × 5 = 30.

Percent means per 100, so the whole is always 100%, whatever number it stands for.

10 equal parts make each part 10%, so 60% is 6 of them. 4 equal parts make each part 25%: 25%, 50% and 75% take 1, 2 and 3 of them.

If you know a part and its percent, find 1 part first, then all 10.

Find 10% by cutting the whole into 10 parts, then take as many parts as the percent needs.

Saying 60% of 50 is 60, reading the percent as the amount.

60% is 6 of 10 equal parts of 50: 6 × 5 = 30.

90% of 80 = ___ — 72. 10% of 80 is 8, and 90% is 9 of those parts: 72.

25% of 80

Today we'll find twenty-five percent of eighty. But first — what does percent even mean?

The word percent means 'per one hundred'. So twenty-five percent is twenty-five out of every one hundred.

We can write that as a fraction: twenty-five over one hundred.

Twenty-five over one hundred simplifies. Both numbers divide by twenty-five, leaving one-fourth.

Here's a whole, split into four equal parts.

We shade just one of those four parts. That shaded piece is one-fourth — and that's twenty-five percent.

As a decimal, one-fourth is zero point two five. Fraction, decimal, percent — three ways to say the same amount.

What is 25% of 80?Let's unpack 'percent' first.25%= 25 per 10025100÷25=14= 0.251 out of 4 parts shaded25% of 80= 14 of 80= 80 ÷ 4= 2025% of 80 = 20ANSWER2025% of 80
